I have been meaning to tackle this project for some time. My mom had the idea and provided me with a photo of one of her quilt patterns to serve as my guide.
I began by cutting triangles out of nogal, poplar, white cedar, and cherry.
I tried a couple of different designs, finally settling on poplar as the background wood, with cherry and nogal as the offset patterns.
I decided to use a wood tray as my “canvas,” cutting other poplar pieces to fill in the rest of the background.
After sanding and refinishing, this should be a lovely addition to anyone’s home decor.
This project combines both the wood inlay and quilt making traditions of my Mennonite heritage. I am so grateful for both and for being able to finally bring this idea to fruition!
