Masters of Marquetry – Discovering New Wood Artistry

Imagine my delight at meeting Tim for the first time to discover he was a wood artisan extraordinaire.

We had an instant connection around using the natural colors of different woods to create patterns which then can be used to make lovely wood crafts.

I was in awe over two bowls that he made and listened intently as he explained the process. My similar attempts at carving inlay with a lathe had not gone very well!

The cutting board he made simply blew me away. It had gotten broken several years ago and since he is no longer doing woodwork, I offered to take a shot at repairing it.

MC Escher is my favorite artist and Tim’s work reminds me of the art of Escher, utilizing the natural colors of purple heart, maple, and walnut to create light and shading.

What an honor and a privilege to work with such a lovely piece of wood artistry and marquetry!
