Knobby Pine and Black Walnut Chess/ Checkerboard

This is a project I have been working on today.

It is a chess/checkerboard that folds in half to store the pieces. It had a rather simple board etched into the top.

I began by sanding the top and then gluing down squares I cut from knobby pine and black walnut.

I filled in the borders with 45 degree patterns made by my grandfather.

This is how it looks after sanding and filler. I hope to have this completed this weekend and will share the final product in an updated post.
